Subject: Home-Brew Intake Instructions? Anyone? IP: Logged
Message: I have done many searches and all I have come up with are suggestions on how to make them better. What I need is a list of supplies and how to build one, also to relocate the IAT Sensor...(I think those are the right initials)...anyways...I have a 97 5.2 V8...

Message: On the searchs, someone should have listed the parts they used also.'
I've done my own, works well, but I've got the 4.7, different animal as far as intake is concerned. Yours is pretty much the same as the 3.9 and 5.9. Easiest and cheapest I think would be to get a drop in reusable filter (K&N), and used heater ducting(HOme Depot) to the front grill, etc. Use your imagination, and stay with principles of good, cooler air flow.
Good luck

Message: I have a 97 5.2 5speed. I went to the local rice boy shop
and asked for an intake pipe, it was a 3" pipe with a 45"
bend in it... fit on perfectly. about 3 inches long, then the
bend, then about 6 inches long... plus the filter. hope
this helps. it was 30 bucks for the pipe (chrome) and 25
for the filter.

Message: I'd use the idea on goin to the ricer shop to get a tube, but my gut tells me it's morally wrong.
I was gonna see if I could go to an exhaust shop and have them custom bend me a pipe, but I get the feeling they won't. I wanted the metal pipe, so i could relocate my IAT on it and also ice the tube inbetween runs at the track.

Message: Heck, I would check out e-bay. They sell everything! My brother found a Short-air intake for my dakota (same as yours) for $20 + shipping. Cheap replacement but it works.

Message: birdman,
nice tip, he said he has the 5.2 though.
after I spelled the address right of the site you suggested, everything I click on like 'useful info', gets me a pop up, that doesn't seem to go anywhere. Is this your site?

Message: Texas Todd, It is not my site. It appears that I did not give the whole address. I found it by going to www.dakota-durango.com then hit Performance Tips. That take you right to it. Let me know if you find it ok.

i got a 3in 90 from a truck exhaust place.a 3in air to air tube of a dt266 internatinal diesel.
brought it home sanded it ,primed ,three coats of tremclad aluminum spray and the tremclad clear coat. strapped on a K&N. next im having some mirrored aluminum checker plate fitted to the inner wheelwell to act as a heat shield of sorts to deflect the cold air around the filter.
thought you might like to know they well bend anything but it well cost you ,try to keep it simple when you go there it well cost less.
