Subject: 408 Stroker Carb ?
IP: Logged

Message:
I am wanting to put a 408 stroker into a different car (72 Charger), and was wondering what would be better keeping it fuel injection and get a wiring diagram and try and get the wiring right, or get a new intake manifold and a carb, first do they make a intake manifold for a carb on 360 or 408?
Any help is appreciated, Thanks

You can go EFI if you would like but that would be some major $'s and alot of tuning.
A guy put a MPI 360mag in a 70 Challenger years ago, it was back when Magnums first came out. He had to use a complete wiring harness from a 1500 and alot of testing and tuning.

My opinion would be that a good Holley or Demon carb on top of a M1 single plane would be your best bet, especially with the 408.

Good luck.

Okay so the m1 single plane is fine for carb? Couple of other questions, what about the auto trans then? like the elec. overdrive off/on button, and the couple of sensors on it or whatever. Is there any other porblem areas that I should be looking at?

Thanks for the help FazDak

Np dude.

As far as the "elec OD" and all, you have none of that to worry bout with a 72 Charger, it never had OD. Now if you wanna add an A518 or A500 to the setup it'll be that much nicer but an OD tranny in any old Mopar is quite a bit of work.
You'll need the tranny Xmember comlpetely reworked and sometimes the tranny hump in the floor has to be enlarged (dunno with that year B body).

If your not worried with the OD than just get a race rebuild on a 904 or a basic or race rebuild on a 727.

I have a bit of experence with old school Mopars and own a 1973 340 Challenger at the moment, email me directly if you want more advice/help.
