the funniest thing in this page is that you talk of the lightning. This makes me laugh. Have you heard of the new truck that dodge is making with the viper v-10. That ram has 500lbs of torque and 500 hp. Now tell me that chevy or ford has anything that can compare with that.

Good to hear the R/T Can put up some half descent numbers.

Performance wise,I still am not totaly convinced that a 5.9 can be called better than a 4.7L. Especailly with the new throttle body/ air intake on the '02s. It is lighter and damn close to the same power.

True the R/T will put up slightly quickertimes but given its chassis and traction improvements it is hard to pinpoint what makes it Faster than 4.7L models

Eric- it's more how the R/T is as fast as the 4.7 5-speed in spite of all the differences. Most all the differences between the R/T and a 4.7 5-speed sport actually hurt the R/T's 1/4 mile times. The 17" tires are no wider then a sport with 16" or 15x8" package but they weigh more. The automatic is the real killer to R/T, a 4.7 auto just doesn't come close to running fender to fender with the R/T like a 4.7 5-speed does. Just Drop the motor out of an R/T in a RC 95 5.2/5-speed/3.92 LS Sport Dakota with a 15x8 rim and P255 tire, and you would have had a truck that would have broken into the 13's in pure stock form on a good day, and been low to mid 14's all day.

Im alittle late on this, but Willhelm, Thats exactly what the bottom line is. I mean obviously dodge thought that the 5.9 had something more than the 4.7 otherwise we would all be driving around in 4.7 R/T's. Now im sure the 4.7 is a fine engine and very well may have its upsides compared to the 5.9 but its obvious that the 5.9 had an advantage, against other engines, that Dodge thought would make the R/T propel it self alittle bit quicker. It would only make sence that the quicker engine would be in dodges premier sport truck.

One last thing too... I dont know if Willhelm ran 14.4 or not... obviously not likely but, Robert, if your buddy with the R/T is only running 15.5 with all the mods you listed him having... I think its time for him to either hang up his keys and take the bus to work or trade his truck in for another. CC Stock R/Ts run 15.5 RC R/Ts 15.3 (I assume thats on the typical summer day). I get these numbers from the R/T club it self. If your friend is paying hundreds of dollars and still not making any gains on his stock time (15.5 assuming he has a CC, lord help him if its a RC unless he is running on top of pikes peak "heh heh") Then I would deffinatly suggest trading his lemon in. Iv managed a 15.2 with just the PCM in my CC R/T on an 80 degree day after driving the thing a good 45 miles.

That's awesome! What have you done to that bad-boy to get that close to the 13s? Is that a RC or a CC? The closest I got to 13s NA was 14.63 @ 93.33 mph. That wasn't in ideal conditions, but I don't think I could have gotten below 14.20s with perfect conditions.

Tell us what you did! (please?)

my Time is from My G-tech, although real accurate they due eliminate reaction times, just like cutting a perfect light every time. Anyways, 3.92 suregrip(stock), 68mm Fastman throttle body, z-tube W/cold air, Leach PCM, IAT adjuster, removed CAT, MBRP exhaust, autolights, Hurst, rear tire pressure at 20 lbs, and it was 50 degrees and I was on a nice old concrete road that has a nice rough spot to launch. Perfect conditions to say the least.(I dont live in the middle of the desert like you do!)

And Duner, Im "Dan Cuda" on Mopar Chat. I appreciate all of your help. The biggest gains by far were the PCM and the removed CAT.

Most of my G-tech times seem to average around 14.4 when I get a good launch.

Sorry its a regular cab. I will be at the Chrysler Classic in May in Columbus to back up my claims. Thats an open challenge to any Dakota!!!

Just wanted to add with the CAT gone, I make good power at 6,000 RPMs now. Thats all the difference in the world.
