Subject: H.O. Heads IP: Logged
Message: I know nothing about how exactly the specs in heads interact, i.e. exhaust lift, intake lift, etc. But I do know ideal flowing heads make more power. Would a stock 4.7 benefit from the H.O. heads at all, are there flow differences?

Message: i'm not o sure what if any changes were made to the heads for the h.o. engine. there cant be to big of changes because there is only about a 30 horse difference between the h.o. and regular output. in my mind i think you are better off just doing a little home porting and polishing of the ports and chambers. the heads would have to come off anyway so why not just clean the castings up and save the extra money on something better.

Message: usually on a H.O. engine versus a normal engine the head is about the only change...if you port and polish that head it wouldn't do as good as the H.O.! Mainly because it has different valves and valves spring also. And if you do port and polish that head you need to throw some headers and dual exhaust on it or else it's pointless! Because what's the point of having better flow in the head if the exhaust just gets strangled in the exhaust pipes! I put headers and dual exhaust ONLY on mine and i gained 30 HP on my '97 w/ a 318! So if u do port and polish or get a different head, do some exhaust work too or else it's pointless!

Message: I know about the premier-automive heads, but I can probably get the factory H.O.'s for cheaper, my question is what kind of horsepower gain can I expect from the regular H.o. heads?

Message: Crank is different. Forged vs. cast. Getting the crank and doing a swap would be a good way to beef up the engine. Then get the custom lite weight pistons and rods (off KRC website), and you're in business. Adding the heads might be possible (dunno, they have knock sensors and other gadgetry). Just buy the whole 4.7L engine and ECU, then do the swap :)
