Message: i've noticed that there are a bunch of aftermarket companies that are making the high flow air intake with the k&n type filters. I'm making my own, but don't know if i should go with a 4" pipe down to 3" at the air hat, which is what the k&n kit does, or should i go with a 3" like most other systems.

Message: I think that most that are planning BIG mods, like blowers, etc. usually go for the 4".
I've made a home brew that's about 3 1/4 I.D., and is slightly bigger than the stock stuff, also eliminating the 'accordian' tube.

Message: From info I got here...
I use a 'fernco' 90deg fitting off of my TB. It's a nice long 90, no sharp bends, and it's kinda hard rubber. So it's easy to clamp, but won't collapse under the vacuum. This eliminates the 'air hat'. then on to the filter near the pass. side front, where an air damn, keeps the hotter air out, and takes air from the removed fubber flap, and the opening in the right fender well.
'Fernco' fittings are sold at 'Lowes' , Home Depot, etc.
If you have sewer pipe on you air intake......
you MIGHT be a reneck!

Message: I'm using an ABS set-up on my 4.7, the usual 3" as most others do. With alittle aluminum heat wrap insulation it keeps the heat out. Plenty of air for this engine. TexasTodd....if you have any vacuum at those fittings, better clean your filter, there should be minimal pressure diference from the outside air and the inlet to the throttle body...just my 02
