Message: What's up everyone...I'm a regular on vwvortex, and I sell dubs...but I've always liked dakota r/t's and I have the opportinuty to buy one in good shape in yellow with about 42k on it. It's a standard cab...tires look ok...I have a feeling that it would make a great fun car for the weekends...I have a gti 1.8t now...so is there any advice you all could give? Should I look for specific problems areas? Lemme know what's up!

Message: There is no evidence of 99's or any year being slower then others. The 99's are identical in every way to the 98's and the 2000's have a few changes. If anything the 2001-2003's should be the slowest because although they have the identical motor and transmission, they have added restrictions in the exhaust. Most people would pick a 98-2000 over the other years because of the greater amount of smog legal aftermarket, and the availability of the MP PCM.

thats funny. a stock CLUB CAB R/T runs like 15.4 in the 1/4. the reg cab is a bit quicker than that.

Must be what you "heard". I have SEEN many run the entire 16s range, and just one break into the 15's running high 15's. I know, the truth hurts...but it's the truth. I was all about buying an R/T until I drove a few and saw for myself. Like I said, drive one, you'll see. Unless you are someone used to driving a slow S10 or a 4/6 banger truck, you'll know right away they are dogs.

Message: Well Joe, for the record, I have owned both a '98 5.2 5 speed 3.92 gears and an '01 R/T and would say hands down that my R/T is considerably faster. I really love the '98, but the R/T spins the tires faster , runs the quarter faster, and pulls harder longer through the RPM range. Even with the auto tranny and tighter emissions restrictions.
David, as I tell most people who are interested in the R/T, make sure you buy it for the WHOLE truck. Buy it because you like the lowered stance, handling, AND power. If you buy it just to go from 0-60, you may loose some races. But if you buy it because it's fast AND fun to drive, you will not be dissapointed!

Message: I have a 99 cc yellow R/T and I love it! It handles great and has a respectable amount of power, and like anything else can be built up to be a very quik truck. Mine will run high 13's and my friend has a 00 R/T that will run low 12's. It just depends on how much money and time you are willing to spend.

Message: 2001RT - When I said older 5.2, I meant a GenII. Some 92's and 93's could run high 14's STOCK. Your advise to David is exactly right.
Tater - Sure you do, and sure he does... Aren't you the one that claimed to do 140 in your 97 4x4?? Right... IF you are not full of crap (like everyone else on this site claiming outrageous times), how much N2O are we talking? 150, 200 shot? Your engine will last how long?? Put that much N2O on almost anything and you will run high 13's, for awhile :-)
Put this in the site search engine (match all):
title:slow title:r/t
or
title:slow title:rt
or
big_torque slow
David, remember, most of these idiots are full of crap.

Message: Hmm, I currently own a '00 R/T and had a '99 R/T that I bought brand new special order from the factory. The only time I have ever runs ow than a 15 second 1/4 was my very first run on a track in 90% humidity, 90 degree temps, with a 2.5 second 60' time. I ran a 16.1. SInce then, the best time I ran in my '99 was a 14.5 with a few mods, and the '00 I curently have "should" run high 13's normally asperated. I will find out for sure this weekend in Sacramento. Most stock club cab R/Ts run mid 15's, and most stock regular cab R/Ts run low 15's. This just sounds like a huge case of penis(or truck) envy on Joe's part.

You can and will blow away almost everyone from a stoplight. It turns on a dime, spins the tires forever, etc. And, yes I get about 9 mpg (foot always in it).

Get a '98-'00 so you can start off by getting a Mopar PCM and with just that(with a RC) you should be very low 15's if not 15 flat. Have fun!

Message: I have a 99 black rc rt, and it ran 15.2 at the track, reason is because of the tire slppage out of the hole. with about 4000$ you can add mods to a 360 to drop into the 13s very easily. I would say yes if you want a fun truck to drive and easy to mod to go even faster then buy the rt.
rt - "16s", yeah right, probably didn't have the nuts to lay on the accelerator on the floor

Message: Buy the 99. I have documented times at the strip with my 98 CC from day one completely stock to now with mods (check out the link below for all the time slips). New it ran 15.5 now 13s N/A in 80 degree weather (never 16s even stock and mine a CC). Mine gets 13-14 miles per gallon and has 146,000 miles on it. R/Ts rock and can take some serious abuse (I use mine as a work truck during the week) . I have nailed mine constantly for the last 5 years and she's still rockin. Cobra owner comment after two red lights and a spankin-“Man that truck rolls!”
