I am in desperate need of a few answers. I have a 91 extended cab SE 4x4 Dak. Everything is stock from the 3.92 gears to the 3.9L engine. I want to know what i would have to do to put a 318 or a 360 into this truck. The stock motor just isn't cutting it. I have heard that a motor will just bolt up to the tranny but will the transfer case still work. Not sure if it vacuum controlled or what. And how far back can i use a motor 70s 80s 90s? Clueless. I am planning on giving the truck a 3in body lift so the hood will have enough clearance. I just need to know what to do to put the 5.2 or 5.9 in the truck.

Thanks for all you help.

The trans and transfer case will work perfect. All of the LA 318s and 360s are basically the same and are interchangable. The 360s are externally balanced, thus requiring wieght on the torque converter to balance the motor. You will need a special oil pan and PCM (if you are planning to keep the EFI) also. Trimming of the fan shroud is also in order. All of the accesories up front should bolt up perfectly. I am not sure on the Pre mag V-6 to V-8 motor mounts. On the Mag motors they are the same on the 4X4s.
