Subject: plug gap IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 dakota 1500 5.2L what gap do i use on the 3923 autolite plugs.also when i replace theromsat to 180 does it come with a gasket or do i just use the old one.Is it okay to remove heat shields around plugs they are a pain in the clinton

Message: Reccomended plug gap can be found in a service manual or on the emissions information sticker under the hood. Use the new gasket with the thermostat, and make sure the mating surfaces are clean. As for the heat shields, it would be a good idea to leave them in place, they are there for a reason.

Message: for the plug gaps depend on the system you are using... for stock I would stay around .038-.042 with my MSD I run them at .055... I would remove the heat shields, they just get in the way... I don't believe it will come with a gasket, but it is like $1.00 and yes I would replace it... too much work to take everything apart to not replace a part that cheap.
