Subject: Water pump bolts IP: Logged
Message: When replacing water pump on my V8 '95 Dakota, I noticed that two of the long bolts seemed to have engine oil on them and the other two long bolts were immersed in coolant. What type of sealant should be used when reinstalling these bolts?

Message: first whem i changed the water pump and cleaned up the surfaces,i put permatex aviation gasket sealer on both surfaces, pump and engine in conjunction to the gasket .
second the permatex ultra black well do fine for both,
i always do this before any reassembly of a water pump, tap the holes and run a die over the bolts. this ensures a clean hole and thread before applying the sealer

Message: The two outside bolts run into the water jacket and the inside one go into the valley under the intake. Put liquid teflon on the clean bolt threads to seal them. Dan
