Subject: tranny slippage IP: Logged
Message: I just recently bought a 98 Dakota ext. cab 4X4 with the 5.2 litre and I have been having tranny problems. Mainly from second to third. I have a warrenty and had it looked at and the guy said he replaced a couple of solenoids. That helped for a while, and recently it started in again? It doesn't do it all the time but especially when you get on it and when its cold. Any ideas?

Message: thats quite a common thing in the trucks.
ive had my tranny rebuilt after it started doing this. warrenty
after the rebuild it did the same thing when its cold
let the truck warm up in neutral this gets the fluid moving ,avoid hard acceleration untill the engine is at operating temp
if it still does it then the clutch packs are scored ,take it back to the dealer and tell them its flareing, they may take a different approach to it
in the very fine nuts and bolts of the tranny there is a difference between slipping and flaring
