Message: Yeah i'm hoping that by the time I wear out my 4.7L Dak DC will be offering the 4.0L V6 Delta Diesel w/ 235hp and 375ft/lbs mated to a tremec 6spd (if possible). It'll probably end up with a richmond or allison 5spd though. But then again I only have 42K on my '00 Dak so I have quite a ways to go.

Message: In a midsize truck package we'll only see inline-6 diesel engines for quite awhile. Any i-6 is inherently much better balanced than a v-6 is (because of the internal geometry), and therefore doesn't need counter-balancing and extra parts. Only reason for a v-6 is that it can more easily tucked under a short, low hood of a car. This is less of a problem in a truck because of the truck's bigger, longer engine compartment. So, I just wonder how small a i-6 diesel can be made, before it doesn't make sense anymore. Like with turbine engines, maybe there's a lower limit on their size below which they don't work so good. Also, the 5.9 Cummins is obviously the same displacement as the R/T 5.9. It's heavier and more expensive, but available now - just a matter of amortizing development costs. With a beefier front suspension and tranny, could this improved diesel also be stuck into the Dakota? Would huge torque, maxing out at 1400 rpm and HP maxing at 2300, be in demand for those people wanting to put the stock 5.7 in the Dak? Or would this just be too radical for the performance small truck market? (One of the reasons that I'm looking at this line of thought, is the latest DC management philosophy of 'making every vehicle fun to drive' -announced at the same show where they showed the V-10 motorcycle(!), and announced the v-16(?) car - in the middle of a recession, no less. And, also because of the very recent improvements made in new diesels)

Message: Someone already dropped a 5.9 into a dak. At least I think it was a 5.9L. They shoehorned it in then had to put the radiator in the trucks bed. I think it let the dak run 13's in the 1/4 mile and it got like 30mpg.

Message: Also,
The land speed record was recently set by a Dakota with a highly modified Cummins 5.9L. It was a pretty good story, the guy used the truck to haul the supply trailer to the flats, ran upwards of 200 mph, and then towed back with the same truck.
It was a shoehorn job though, the #6 valve cover was as far back as the dash in a stock dakota.

Message: Remember that fitting the rather long 5.9L Cummins in the Dakota would not be the easiest thing to do. Sure it's only six cylinders, but the Dakota is only really meant to fit 4 cylinders length in it's engine compartment. They could fit a smaller displacement inline 6 in there, and hence the rumor of the new Delta.

Message: That Banks dakota is sweet, check out the pics of the rebuilt back end on the web site... it's so nice, coil overs, 4-link suspension, quick change rear end. I'd love to have a race-only dak setup just like that one, everything except for the diesel engine, it's awesome but not my thing, I'd drop a 528 HEMI into it and bolt up a 6-71... damn I wish I had some more money!

Message: Wont happen. DC will proably put a cast iron version of the 2.5 V6 diesel used in the Jeep Grand Cherkee in Europe(Daimler Car Diesle)! Sure they will bore and strok it to get 3-4 liter out of it but it will not be anythng like the Cummins 5.9!!! I would be a happy camper if Cummins just cut two or three cylinders of their 5.9 and put it in the Dakota and kept the it turbo charged.
