Message: I just replaced my fan clutch at 690000 miles. My 2001 QC with 4.7 V8 temp went a little high. I had been looking at the fan for a while and thought it was turning a little slow. I could actually grab it when the motor was running. With the new fan, my gas mileage has fallen off from 17.5 to 18 mpg to 15 mpg. The fan now sounds line a big blower all the time.

Message: MVB,
I'm always puzzled at people thinking their fan clutch is causing higher temps. How high? Are you still running the stock 195 degree thermostat?
I also have an 01, 4.7, etc., etc., with a 180 degree t-stat.
BUT, I HAVEN'T had ANY Fan clutch, or belt driven fan for well over 2 years now. Even towing my sailboat, it has never made it to the halfway point on the gauge.
Only the electric, that cam stock with our motors, and no extra controllers, etc.
If you get rid of that belt driven fan clutch/ and fan altogether, you'll see improvements only.

Message: So looking at the engine of my 5.2 in order to remove my fan clucth I would turn my wrench to the left? Towards the passenger side...
I think I have a cracked timing cover. I redid my heads but still have a water leak into the oil.
