Subject: Fuel pressure valve IP: Logged
Message: Hey.. Dudes whats up? Anyway I have a 2000 4.7 Dakota Quad cab 4X4. I have a problem with start up.
its starting to take a few more cranks to start and it's getting worse.
I think my fuel pressure valve is clogged and I want to replace it.. Does anyone know where it is located?
Thanks in advance .. Dakotas Kick some serious ass..

had a similar problem with my 93 it was an injector leaking down ,the techs at chrysler replaced three IAC's and didnt touch it any more claiming it was the nature of the truck .one morning i changed the spark plugs before heading out and found a cylinder soaked with gas. check the plugs in the morning to see if there wet.
secondly ,you should get a fuel pressure tester to see for sure that the pressure is low and that it holds pressure after its shut down ,it well bleed some of but not alot.the fuel pump in the inital ignition on and not start should only run for about three seconds, and make sure there are no fuel leaks
thrid , check for vacum leaks,
fourth ,check the plug wires that they are not leaking ,and the distributor cap for some condesation new or old it dosent matter check them, and check the coils primary and secondary resistances ,a break down in the inductive field well cause the coil to produce less spark
i dont know where its at on the 4.7 ,but from one dodge owner to another hanging parts is not the way to correct a problem.
and these dont have to be folowed in any particular order, but start with the most obviuos and work from there , if all this checks out ,then youll have to look at the ecm and sensors a little more closely

Message: Thanks Chris, Ok. I'll start with the fuel pressure tester. if the pressure leaks down is it a fuel injector or the check valve?
I already checked, wires and dizzy cap where can I get info on resistance values for coils?

Message: a haynes ,or chilton manual is a good start ,you may have to order it though. the one on both my 3.9's call for less than 13,600 ohm on the secondary, and less than 1 ohm on the primary
as i said you well have to pull out the plugs to see if any have more carbon than others as well as if any have gas on them ,if you find any thing strange ,then pull the injectors. for a small fee you can have them tested , some parts stores ,or even the dealer can check them out on a bench.you may want to call around.
with the pressure tester your looking to see how fast pressure is made ,how fast it bleeds down ,and the flow of the pump.this may give you an idea ,its for my 2000 3.9 but it may be a start
pressure 339 +/-34 kpa and flows a half pint in 7 seconds, not liter. may have to borrow your wifes measureing cup i did
hope this helps
