Subject: Ladder bars or traction bars IP: Logged
Message: My question is what kind of rear suspension mods should I make to my 87 big block Dakota?? Should I go with ladder bars , 4 link , 3 link or build a custom pinion snubber and remove the rear spring clamps or traction bars like caltracks??
Also does a pinion snubber do basicaly the same thing as standard traction bars??

Message: I would look into the 4 link w/ coil overs for the sheer ability to tune it... If you want something simpler then the ladder bars are a good option... I personally like the 4 link and you could just buy a book and try different things to see how the truck reacts to it.

Message: Ladder bars are great if you don't run it on the street for a daily driver ... the torsion on the suspension kills the rod ends. For a great all around setup, it's hard to compete with the 4-link. Very tunable for great weight transfer when you need it and independent enough to hold up to daily driving. The slid-a-link is a good “Bolt on” design but you do have to adjust them for street and for drags. I left mine setup for drags and I keep breaking stuff on the street every couple of months.
For your Big Block I would suggest 4-link.
