I have an '88 Dakota 4x4 with a 3.9 in it and I am putting a 318 in it. Any suggestions or tricks would be helpful.

I have an '88 standard cab with 200k+ on it. At one point I decided to look into swapping the aging V-6 with the newer Magnum V-6 or V-8, but the salesman said something about the frames being laid out differently on Magnum era vehicles. I'm not sure if it's true, but you might want to check it out, and consider the cost of fabricating new motor mounts, line and accessory routing, etc., as oppposed to shelling out a few bucks for a used, factory built V-8 vehicle.

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to change over to a 318. I have an '89 Dakota that the hubby and bro in law put my 360 in, so I could drag race it. It has 450 hp, 727 trans, and a 8 1/4 posi rearend out of an Aspen. It really hauls. The guys made up motor mounts and welded the brackets on. The rubber part of the motor mount came from a small block '72 Satellite. You won't be disappointed, except you had better have wider tires for traction. Good luck!

You may have to do some mounting mods as the Genl was 3 inches shorter in the front end than the Genll. Good luck with the swap, let us know how it goes.

Check out engine-swaps.com they have the coversion kits to put v8s into v6 dakotas.

I have a 89 dodge dakota with a 3.9L and i want to put a 1982 dodge 318 in it. It has 4 wheel drive with a 5 speed tranny in it. What will i need and can i do it?

There are going to be some issues with your suspension (front and rear) and you are going to find a few issues with your tranny.
