Subject: '99 Oil usage question/100,000 mi maint. IP: Logged
Message: I have a '99 Dakota 2wd, std cab, sortbed, 5.2L,
5speed, 3.92 gears, no cat, flowmaster muffler, IAT
adj. I have 98,000 miles on it now, had it since new.
love the truck, the only thing I've had done since new is
they a rebuilt the trans at 5,000 miles on warranty when
the 1st to 2nd synchro went out...They said 2nd gear
was machined wrong...
Ok, my question is what is normal oil consuption on
these? I go through a quart every 1,000 miles, I've run
10w30 mobil 1 since after the first oil change...does not
leak oil anywhere, just uses it. I just keep an eye on the
levels..I drive it very hard, I'm always towing or
generally racing anyone I can. Could this be the inake
leaking? doesn't seem to run bad...What else can i
expect to change on this truck in the near future? I
haven't even gone through a set of brakes (front or rear)
on it yet which I think is amazing, I wonder how many
more miles I can expect to get out of the clutch?

Message: Have you checked To see if you gally pan gasket is leaking? Look through your TB and see if you can see any oil at the bottom of the intake. If so well thats where your oil is going. You need to pull the intake and replace the gasket, I beleve they have finaly came up with a mettal gasket instead of fiber.
