Subject: ELECTRICAL PROBLEM??? Gotta read this on IP: Logged
Message: I need any info I can get. Here it is: as I was driving my brake light and ABS light both came on, right after that happened, the speedometer went to zero and the odometer quit working as well. After checking everything that was accessible, starting driving again and about 20 minutes later the Check Engine light came on. Everything seems to run correctly ie... engine, trany, power is good.
Does anyone have anything on what this could be and do any of you have a better suggestion then the dealer to run a diagnostic? I don't have a scan tool of my own and wouldn't know how to use one anyway.

Message: I have a 98 5.2, same thing happened to mine a few months ago, still have not fixed it yet. My speedo will not start working until after 20mph and the same lights came on as yours with the exception of my check engine light. I am almost sure that this its the speed sensor in the diff. Any other thoughts.

Message: Had the same exact problem with my 99 R/T. Was still under warranty it was a speed sensor. I'd have to dig up my paperwork. If you have any more questions let me know. There should be a part # or something on my paperwork. I'll dig it up.

Message: its your abs sensor on top of your rear end. the sensor is 38.00 bucks at your local dealer, but dont let them install it for you, its 1.5 labor times there shop labor. kinda pricey.

Message: Would you the ABS sensor be bad or do you think I have a problem with the brakes? And as far as the speed sensor, that would cause it to quit working, work again and then quit working again? I started my truck this morning and the Check Engine light went off. The other 2 lights are still on and the speedo still not working.
I know some where I can get a scan tool to use, does anyone think if I run that on my truck and use a Haynes manual I can figure it out before changing anything?

Message: Had a similar prob, 98 dak 5.2, abs/brake lite, but spedo worked fine. The dealer replaced first the sensor on the diff, then the brake switch.. the brake switch actually fixed the prob.
Another dodge guy asked me, when diagnosing the prob, if the speedo worked ok,,, he said that if the speedo is not functioning properly at the same time as the abs/brake it meant the speed sensor on the Tranny was the problem, not the one on the diff.

Message: Changed out the speed sensor on the rear differential and everything is back to normal. Had to reset the computer to clear the Check Engine Light. Hopefully it won't come back on for something else. Thanks to all who offered advice and tips.
