Message: Ihave had this problem with stalling for about 6 or 8 months and nobody can find the problem for sure and it just keeps costing me more money. I am convinced that the dakota is a piece of junk the dealers dont want to admit it and they just keep soaking you for more cash. I just got back from the dealer and once again they soaked me for more money. first telling me to replace the pickup in the distributor without even testing it first then not giving me my money back because its electical parts . now they tell me its my feul pump 300 bucks and just to be safe they write on my yet another bill [may or may not cause stalling] Ive spent over a thousand bucks so far and still no results. now im taking it to a mecanics course school and leaving it with them no charge for labor we'll see what happens.

Message: When does it Stall? My roomates 95 318 was stalling out on him after he backed out from parking spots and put into drive it would stall out, then at red lights when he would come to a stop it also would stall out. And when accelerating it would slip in and out of gears at 50mph or so. To fix the problem we cleaned the tb and any dirty sensors on it, then he decided to have it checked at tranny shop, the fluid was low because of improper checking at local service shop that filled all fluids. that was it problems solved.

Message: Hey this is great, I was going to ask the same question about my 94 Dak. 318, automatic. slt. Mine starts stalling after a sustained run, say over 100 miles. Then stalls at all stops for a while, I can pull off the freeway and coast up to a light and it will stall. Also wet weather seems to have a negative effect, more stalling, seems to run in cycles, it will stall for a couple of hours then quit. Thanks for the info. I will also check the tranny fluid.

Message: I've had the same intermitant problem with my 92 5.2 . When mine stalls it will not start again for hours and sometimes days. I have notice that when I turn the key and the check engine light does not come on, the truck won't start. I don't know if this is because there is no power getting to the computer or if the computer is sensing something and won't allow the truck to start? Please let me know if you solve your problem, it may help me in solving mine.

Message: The stalling problem can be caused by several things. Crankshaft position sensor, computer, throttle position sensor, and clogged fuel filter.
Troubled, what have you replaced? When does it stall? Jerry Thomas, your problem sounds like the crankshaft position sensor to me. A friend of mine would stall at traffic lights or if he was slowing down or driving slow in cold weather. Would be hard to restart. Mateo, your truck sounds like the computer is bad. Can you borrow a computer to check and see if that is it. I checked this guy's Dakota that would stall after running less than a hour and would not restart most of the time. Just like yours it may restart in a few hours or it may take a day or so. I put my computer in today in his truck and it idled for about 4 1/2 hours. When I installed my computer, it did not initially want to start. When it did it ran rough for several minutes until my computer made some adjustments. Hope this helps.

Message: jacque i wouldnt be using your comp in other peoples truck. you are going to end up wrecking yours. most of the time if the computor goes out it goes out becuase something in the system caused it to go out.if you dont find or replace the problem before you put yours in it could wreck your comp too. i am not tring to sound like an ass i just dont want you to wreck yours.

Message: you are an idiot if you are not worried about your comp. 9 times out of 10 it is a transsistor that goes out on a comp. the reason that happens is that there is something taking to much voltage so the transistor fries. but hey you are so smart you should know that though.

Message: I don't know what the hell is going on with my truck right now but i am having a major problem. Me and my father share the truck and he drives it to and from work. now and then when he gets home i'll take it out for the night while its still hot. now when i first fire it up its fine but the next time i shut it down like at a Wawa and just run in and come back out, it won't stay running. It'll start, it always starts, but when the idle dies down the engine cuts. So basically i have to keep the thing revving for a while and it usually settles down after a while but given the same situation it will do it over and over again and i think now that its getting warmer i am going to have it doing this that much more. its a 99 dakota R/T W the 5.9 and it has an auto. it also has aftermarket exaust and a cold air intake. a couple other things but nothing that could effect this.
Does anyone have any ideas for me???

Message: You didn't happen to look under the relay/fuse box on the driver's fender under the hood did you? Another thing to check is the relays, Have 93 Dodge Dakota 4x4 had the same problem the relay/fuse box was the problem two wires were all green and one roited off. The other thing you might cheque is the coil if it only runs for a short time it might be weak, and if it gives you more problems when wet cheque the distributer cap and rotor, maybe inspect the wires for damage also. Another thing you might want to look at is when it stalls try to find out when you turn the key if the fuel pump comes on or not.

Message: Chip ... have you checked the condition of the tb plates, iac and air bypass port on tb? They get dirty from carbon and oil fairly fast.
