Subject: 214K mile 5.2 dak? still ok? IP: Logged
Message: my 92 dakota has 214k miles on it, stock tranny, and internals, what should the first thing be for me to replace, tranny or engine, also, is it normal for a MP comp to let the 5.2 go ALL the way to 6K revs? i thought there was a revlimiter

Message: the mopar performance computer allows the revs to go higher, up to 6k, but that is higher than a stock valvetrain can handle. Have the rod bearings looked at, if they are good, swap to a new head gaskets so that if the blew you would not crack the heads and put in some performance valve springs, i'm am holding one in my hand the part # is p5249464, they are less than $100 and will help with higher rpms. that is not a rebuild but it will help you regain some lost power. then just wait and replace parts as they break. if you can do it yourself it will be a cheap investment into many more miles. then when the bottom end blows, you can have some real fun. the 5.2 can take some serious abuse before it breaks, so don't loose any sleep over it
