Message: I used 50 wt oil until it was pointed out that the thickness of the oil was not what protected the engine, and that the heavier oil, in fact didn't lubricate as well as thinner oil, not spraynig the piston bottoms to cool, being just one reason.
My original engine has 500,000 miles on it, using the recommended weight. In fact I use Amsoil 0W-30, Series 2000 oil.
Use the recommended weight oil.

Message: Have 70 Ply Duster, 6 Cyl 225, 200,000 miles. After doing valve job, car uses 1 qt. oil per 150 miles, but no smoking, and I have to change plugs frequently due to oil fouling. Oil warning light comes on after warming up if idling in drive, but goes out when shifted to neutral or engine speeded up.
Using SAE 40, trying to cut down on fouling and oil usage. But wondering if 20-50 would be better. Mixed opinions on this, some saying 20-50 is a thin as SAE 20, just holds up at high temperatures like 50 wt.
