Subject: Transfer case and diff fluid . . . IP: Logged
Message: Hey people . . .
I have a '98 Dak 5.2 5spd 4x4 with LSD and I'm wondering first of all what are the ID codes of my Tcase and tranny? Where is that labeled? The manual isn't very clear about what fluid I should use but it does say something about using ATF in there. Is that right? ATF in a manual transmission Tcase? Also is it true that unless you have a leak there is no need to change the tranny fluid? This is also implied by the manual but it never says it outright. By the way I have both the shop manual and the owner's. I will check the shop manual again, but what are you guys doing?
Then for the front and rear diff, normal synthetic is good? And then I need the mopar additive for the LSD right? Thanks for any info. Rock on-

Message: For the rear and front axles the required oil is 80-90 wt GL-5 and yes (2) 8 oz bottles of posi additive, your rear axle takes 2 qts of gear oil and the 16 oz of additive, takes it right to the lwr fill hole. the transfer case takes ATF fluid I believe Dexron III. and if you have a small leak i would still change it out from time to time. As for the manual trans most take ATF fluid now also, but you should ask the dealer on that one.
