Okay I got a question for you experts out there, will a modified tb last as long as a stock one (never really heard of a tb "wearing" out but had to ask anyways). I mean, what reason do they not port them in stock form, is there any drawback to running a ported tb over a stock one? I have an '02 4.7 QC, I have H.O. cams and not much money, a ported tb sounds like one of the cheaper modifications I could do. Any thoughts?

I self ported the 68mm TB on my 4.7, 01 model, after others such as CW did. Where's he been anyway?

When I tried it, it snapped my head back so fast, I bent the head rest in the seat!---J/K

It opens up the bore before the butterfly valve, thereby letting letting slightly more cfm go thru the valve. Bernd once said that that step was put in there to try and add some low end torque, I don't know why o/w.

I've put about 15K since, no problems.

Texas Todd, when you did it, did you thin out the shaft as well? I'll be doing mine soon and I'm trying to see if anyone has thinned out the shaft and if they had any problems...

darcy,

not the shaft so much, but the lip at the bottom, alittle off the sides (sounds like a hair cut), and the screws that were sticking up doing nothing. I don't see that much gain from thinning the shaft, to a point where it's not structurally sound. Be a bummer to break a shaft in the TB, esp. if a piece traveled down the intake plenum!
