(according to ABD-2)My ? is does this sound right?,Is there a way to check it before buying a new one?.Oh and it is a 97 SLT with a 5.2 Magnum.Thanks for any help.

Problem is most likely NOT the solinoid itself... more likely a leaky hose connection is the problem.

There is a plethora of solinoids, servos, filters, and hoses that make up the EEC system.

EEC= Evaperative Emmissions Control

OK some sites are referring to a code 12 as the battery or computer being recently disconnected!
Now I pretty sure they were NOT.but if this code is correct how do you go about reseting it?But if it is the original thought of the "EEC" does anybody have a
schematic of the engine and an idea where to check for vacuum leaks,or bad connections?
thanks

Code 12 is the purge solenoid as you first stated. I would check the connections and hoses first, just like Bruce said. I'm not sure where it's located on your truck. Usually there is a diagram under the hood.
Check this site out for looking up trouble codes.
www.obdii.com.
To reset the PCM just disconnect the neg battery cable and turn the key to the run position hold it briefly. Reconnect the cable, you should be all set.

My 94 5.2 5-sp has the same code (12) and my Haynes book says it's "Memory standby power lost". I also had a strange occurance the other night, my intruments and intrument lights all went dead (speedo, odo - all kaput) but the two turn signal indicators lit up without flashing. This carried on for about 20 minutes or 40 kms then they came back as if nothing happened. I had just given my dak clean oil and plugs so it should have nothing to complain about.

DAKIAN :Sounds like bad ground or loose ground. Check all your ground wires to block, battery and the ones located in cab that fasten lower part of instrument panel to side cowels( behind kick panels ). Here is a site with good instructions

Hope this helps.

How do you check the purge solenoid? We are getting a clicking sound from the solenoid with no vacuum leaks or bad hoses?
