Subject: my first mod, any suggestions?

I am looking to do my first modification to my 4.7 CC 5-speed. I thinking a dual exhaust (probably Gibson) or a power control module. Anyone one have any suggestions for the best first mod?

For a first mod if have dremel tool port the throttle body. If you do the exhaust make sure you do the intake later on. Exhaust was my first mod and the only gain was sound.

Gotta agree with CW most people with the 4.7 have actually reported a loss of low end power with a less restrictive exhaust. Th tb port and polish did provide a big jump in performance. But I'm always afraid some schmo is gonna grind out the butterfly and come crying to me.

Hey CW, I have a dremel tool, how do you go about correctly porting the TB on the 4.7 without overzealosly grinding out the butterfly valve? Thanks.

The key to porting the throttle body is to not remove any material from around the throttle blade when it is closed. Remove the lip that is in front of the throttle blade so that it is the size of the throttle blade. It is quite a narrowing compared to the size of the throttle blade. I used sanding drums at 60 grit so as not to remove to much material to quickly. I didn't remove the throttle blade or anyting. Just removed the throttle body from the engine.
Anything else to add there Dr Q?

Thanks for the quick reply CW.
You didn't happen to take any before/after pics of the machining by any chance? I got a drill press in the garage with a milling table but it doesn't work too good on circular objects. LOL I guess the idea is not to grind into the sealing area for the throttle butterfly while it is at rest(closed)in the idle position. Are there any in.lb. torque specs and/or tightening sequence for the mounting of the TB to the plastic intake that I should be aware of? Sorry 'bout the book, just want to get it right the first time! Thanks again.

Grind the screws flush with the shaft, and at the outside opening grind about 1mm down at 45 degress the smooth it out. If you start getting "ridges' from ginding the "lip" just change the grade of your stone. We ought to right a book CW, exactly one page long! HA!

Hmm yeah some pictures would be nice, can you post them at speedtweaks? I still kinda sketchy on the instructions, but like most things you just have to do it to find out how to do it

Since K&N has yet to come out with their intake, you may want to try this at ebay. It adds excellent sound when accelerating and quiet when just cruising and I got a 3 mph increase.
