Message: Does anyone know how the mechanics of how to connect to the ODBII computer through the ALDL under the dash? I know you can use a laptop, I know its a serial connection, but what I dont know is what software is available and where do you get the cable for laptop. I want to scan my diagnostics on my truck and possible play with my settings. I am assuming that the PROM can be changed without having to relplace it. Any Help would be appreciated.

Message: All you can do with those is scan for codes-nobody yet that I know of has the software to access the parameter tables for tuning exc. for the few that are flashing PCMs.

Message: They do more than scan for codes according to them,on the fly parrameters.I know you cant write to the prom but it would still be helpfull when tuning

Message: I think the guy at http://www.obd-2.com has a better setup. It wont tweak settings but is will give you a good diagnostics and records parameters on the engine. So if your tuning hardware and sensors ... this is the chit!

I have this scan tool thing for my laptop. Its great for finding problems if you know what to look for. It cant change fuel maps or anything.

There is also this system. I know it can work for the 5.9 but thats all I know. However it can actually access the fuel maps and such, and it cost the same as superchips.
