Message: I have a 92 dodge dakota LE reg cab long bed with a 318 mag auto trans with 3.55 gear. i have been having starting problems lately. I have to shift from park to neutral to park again just to get it to start. I just got a new starter put in thinking that it would solve my problem but it didnt. Please help me if you can.

Message: There is a starter interlock switch which prevents your from starting the truck unless you're in Park or Neutral. I'd say the switch is bad or out of adjustment.
The starter interlock simply inhibits the start signal to the solinoid if you're not in Park or Neutral. By moving the shift lever, you wiggle the interlock switch enough to engage it.

Message: Hurl, you explained what i was goin to say beautifully. Another thing is make sure your shifter is all the way in park, my dad had this problem in his jeep and the only thing wrong was he wasn't putting it in park all the way.
