Subject: Lost tq? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99' dakota 4x4 with an AirRaid intake and a flowmaster cat-back sys w/pipe increased to 3" and don't have intensions on modifying much more "yet"!!! I think I lost alot of tq. Anyone have/had a similar problem? If so any technical advice on correcting it besides changing the exhaust back to 2.5"? (I'm considering it though)

Message: Lots of guys on this board have said DONT GO TO 3 INCH EXHAUST unless you have major intake and internal engine mods like 52mm TB, M1 intake manifold, headers, cam, roller rockers, ported heads, ect. They say that if you increase the exhaust without the above you will loose major in the low end torque department. I considered doing the same to my 2002 R/T, but they all talked me out of it.

Message: I may just end up going back to 2.5". I just don't have the green-back to be putting into my truck yet. Do you have any thoughts on the different manufactures. I was thinking about Gibson, Borla or just sticking with Flowmaster. I like the deep throaty sound I get from Flowmaster.

Message: well dude, i installed a set of duals on my truck jus this past weekend and am extremly happy with it, i wanted the 2 1/2" pipe but it woulda shelled an extra 50 bucks so i opted with 2 1/4" with 3 1/2" tips i also replaced my stock muffler with a flowmaster 40 series. i wasnt real into a set of flows but when i heard that sweet sound i was very pleased, it has a deep throaty sound thats crisp and clean, i looked at lots of systems borla- to expensive, gibson- just didnt sound good enough, but i was seriously impressed with the flow,

Message: I snipped the third cat and went with MagnaFlow and it screwed my PCM (fuel mix was way off)and lost torque with 2.5" stock pipe so I put the third cat back on and I like the louder sound without the cat but it sounds GREAT even with it, I am going with a carsound HIFLOW cat to try and find a happy medium my PCM can deal with and still get back that sound it had to some degree without it. And yes without the cat I lost low end torque but it was still better even when I put it back on than stock because of the Magnaflow, I have heard both Flow master and Magnaflow, I prefer Magna but they both sound good, if $ is no problem go for the Magnaflow it dynos better than Flowmaster but notso muchit to be a factor, Magna is a deeper mellow non rasp sound I like good luck either way, go 2 1/2" single pipe for a 4.7, duel for other models that are not as sensitive in programed FI.
