Subject: 4.7 Motor Question IP: Logged
Message: I recently took my 2000 4.7 in for an oil change and the mechanic noticed where you pour in the oil it looked like coolant was getting into the oil. I told him to wipe it out and I would keep an eye on it. After several hundred miles the oil looks fine but the brownish substance is coming back in the filler tube.
Anyone else experience this? Is it normal? Truck runs great, no smoke or leaks.
Thanks for your help.

Message: "sludge in the filler tube"!!!
do a search, lots of posts and a TSB on this.
General consensus is:
It's OK, no coolant leak actually.
Read the TSB that was posted recently under the thread 'sludge in the filler tube'

Message: It's a lil condensation, no worries, use Mobil 1 and eliminate most of it!

Message: There is a replacement filler neck that fixes that. You will notice it more in the winter, but there is no harm. I too switched to Mobil 1 and do not see it anymore.

Message: OH, and JIm,
this mechanic does NOT know the 4.7.
Does he know it takes SIX quarts of oil, not five, common mistake.
