i was just driving my 96 v8 automatic o/d dakota when suddenly neutralized ,no clunk or any sound just neutralized i went under the car to check the linkage and everityng seems right ,oil is like new,and it never slipped or something was working great until last week when it happened ,just neutralized, no reverse no foward,no estrange sound, please help what could it be shops are like 300 miles away i want 2 doit my self,please help i need the truck thanks please reply.

Fly-wheel, I had to change mine about 2 weeks ago. It did the same thing at a gas station.

so the flywheel mmm but the car still starts and everything exept its neutralized what could it be i already take the trans out today but i cant see the problem were should i look

sounds like either the torque converter or the overdrive unit if your lucky its just the torque converter which either way i would recomend overhaul cause when a converter goes it will put debris in the trans and also the cooler so flush or replace the cooler also if its the overdrive they some times breake and weld themselve together and you cannot get the apart and the overdrive is quit expensive
