Subject: HO Cam Install Help IP: Logged
Message: Installing HO cams in my 4.7 tomorrow - any pointers on securely holding the sprockets for final torque? Obviously don't have the recommended spanner - any techniques easier than building one?

Message: I read where one guy used tie straps to secure the sprockets.

Message: I think the zip ties were used to keep the sprocket in the chain. I don't think that'll work to hold the sprockets while torquing the bolts to 90 ft.lbs. Thanx for the tip, though. Can't seem to find any tips re. holding the cam/sprocket except for using the Dodge spanner - any help out there?

Message: Get a friend to hold the other sprocket with a wrench or socket, it may even help to have a breaker bar or piece of pipe to aid in turning the tool you decide to use.

Message: Installed mine today
General notes:
1. The spanner wrench I bought (Buymopar.com) did not work - Did not come with the correct pins. I was able to remove the hut with out to much trouble. Just make sure you mark the chain and gear before you start removing the cam.
2. Had to remove the master cylindr to remove the left valve cover. It just would come out with it in place.
It did take about 8 hours to complete. A pack of smokes and a 6 pak.
Test drove the truck and you can tell a big difference in driveability
Good Luck
