Subject: 4.7 V8 IP: Logged
Message: I just ordered a 2003 Dakota with the 4.7 V8. I noticed the 4.7 is an SOHC motor. Do the cams operate rocker arms to open & close the valves or is there some sort of shim & bucket design going on here? I'm also curious if the valves are automatically adjusted or is there an adjustment interval required (though I've never heard of this). No real concern here, I'm just curious how this engine ticks. I have OHC motors on my bikes, but being shim & bucket design, I have to periodically check the gap & adjust their shims.
Thanks for your input,
Greg

Message: Check out this web site for the 4.7 V-8 specs. It is very detailed and might tell you what you want to know. First few lines is a history of some kind but the rest is all about the 4.7. Good luck. http://dogeram.org/tech/gas/Cammer/4_7_v8.html
