 Subject: Jet Chip for 4.7L

Hello I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4.7L with a 360 Air Intake and 40 series Flowmaster exhaust system. Nothing much so I am going to go ahead a buy a Jet Chip Stage 2 and please anybody out there that has this on their 4.7L please tell me if it any good and the main qestion I have is does it remove the govenor? Thank you so much.

Hello, I installed the stageII on my 02 4x4 quad cab with the 4.7 automatic, I love it, I originally tried the stageI but it was weak, the II is sweet, The shifting is much improved, better acceleration, I run 89 octane fuel & seems to work for me. I have a 180 T-stat, cat back exhaust,K&N replacement. Sorry it does not remove the top speed limiter. My truck hits 110 Mph and shuts down, but hey it is a 4x4.. I dont care B'out that, I like the better shifts, and quicker to accelerate though. Well worth the money in my book.

As I understand from reading on here...you need to have the exhaust and the stat done before you should add the Stage II chip. correct??
Is it recommended to do the shift kit as well, or does the chip take care of that?

You don't need a shift kit install. the chip works the trans better. And yes you should use the 180 T stat, and have a catback exhaust,or change out the muffler to a performance muffler, such as Flowmaster, Gibson, Borla, etc..

Kevster--Your engine shuts down because at 6500 rpm the gas is shut off by the computer.

I know that.. I have no probs with my truck shutdown, it is a 4x4 not a race truck. But the Jet stage II made a big change in performance...

Funny, but after DYNO's, this chip showed showed no gains, and often a loss.
Do a search, I hope people who don't like them post also. In the recent past, the consensus was that are no good.

They work well on the 4.7 ,but not much difference on the 360, the v-6 shows some improvements also, Keep in mind this is the stage II the stage I is weak. Stage II is 250.00 MPG is a little improved, I should know I have one, then I removed it for a 20 mile trip and I just couldnt wait to put it back on, It really works.

Highlander........ unless he's running like 4.55 gears then it shouldn't hit the rev limiter at 110. I'm sitting around 4grand at 117 when my GOVENOR kicks in not my rev limiter.

I agree with BigRedDak in that when you hit 110 the rev limiter shouldnt shut the truck down, the GOVERNOR is. Unless your running 4.56 gears you should never hit rev limiter in top gear, and rarely if ever in drive.

I stand corrected, My truck does not shut down at 110 mph, I had it up to that, Sorry my mistake. Gears in my truck are 3;92.

Danm, another jet chip post, please don't waste your money on a "jet" chip, if you really want one, I have one for sale for 20$ that I bought for a 99 r/t 5.9 liter, it is a stage two chip requiring 180 deg 'stat and 91 octane fuel, but from my experience 87 oct fuel and reg 'stat are fine, if you want "real" gains reflash your PCM or buy a mopar performance PCM instead

Fool, you can turn the key 1/2 a turn and hold it there and your speedo will go to 0, but your rpm's will keep running. With speedo at 0, you have dis-engaged the limiter.

would the stage II chip help the 2.5l 4-cyl? I'm already adding a AIRAID intake system, a venom 400 controle module(which i have been told works great), and a gibson cat-back exhaust.

I thought that if you got a stage2 that you had to have a high flow intake and exhaust for it to do anything and that you had to run 92octane. I have a 91 with the 5.2L and have thought about getting one but dont know how it would perform with my setup. Remember the 91 is the premag TBI setup

I have a Dakota, manual 4.7 with 20000 on it. I have the idle stumble problem. If there is anyone who knows if a jet performance modual will help please replay. Right now everything is pretty much stock so I would have to get the stage 1. Also is there anyone that knows how hard it is to install a modual on my truck. Thanx any help is help I need.
