Subject: yet another exhaust question IP: Logged
Message: Well, I've found threads in the archives about glasspacks and the 4.7L, and I recall somebody having a website with sound clips, but it never worked for me.
So, has anybody had any experience with just a muffler on a 4.7. I'm not talkin about cat-back, but just a cheap muffler. I'm looking for sound, but don't want to lose any performance.
I just seems a little odd to pay $100 for a nice muffler, when for a little more, I could just as soon buy the HO cams and get a nice HP gain. I love the sound of a V8, though, and I want to hear more. I'd rather not have flowmasters, either.
Thanks

Message: flowmasters are to common,i don't know about the glasspack, but if I was going to get a pretty cheap muffler,i think the turbo has a good sound to it.

Message: Yeah, I've heard magnaflows are good, but they are pretty expensive. I'm just not loaded with cash right now, so I didn't want to spend a whole lot. I guess I'll probably just leave it stock for awhile.

Message: I know you said you don't like Flowmasters,,but you could probably scoop one up for under $60-70 bucks,,,,why not? Till you find something you really want to invest in.
I love flows - cheap!,,and sound great (IMO). I've got the 2 chamber - 40 series, w/turndowns at the exits. Sounds awesome,,nothing but compliments and car alarms!

Message: I actually want to do the same thing with my 02 QC. By just installing a new muffler, would there be any performance gains or losses? I'm mainly concerned about low end. Like BAE, I want a little more rumble, but don't want to sacrifice torque.
Would installing a 50 series Flowmaster in the stock exhaust system sound pretty good? Don't want loud, just a little more rumble.

Message: I went with the magnaflow on my '03 4.7L. Cost about $140 installed. It sounds so nice! At cruise in OD you can't really hear the engine, but on acceleration is has a very nice deep rumble.
