Subject: 1998 Dak CC 4x4 Error codes IP: Logged
Message: Hey gang,
Can anyone tell me how to pull error codes off the OBDII on a 98 Dak? Ive searched the archives and found some stuff, but only thing I can get to work is the guage calibration/test thingie. If I could get it 'broken down Barney style' Id be a grateful man.
Mucho Thanks

Message: Just cycle the key on three times and on the third time leave it on and in the odometer display window should give you a P code. You can look it up at Codes

Message: CW - Can you help me?
Ok everyone with a 4.7L should know that when they are idling for awhile the fan comes on. Then when they pull away the fan roars with the motor until about 2500rpm and then it shuts off as air speed cools the motor. Know the sound I am talking about? well...
Today I go into the bank and leave my truck running as it is about 15 degrees here and my truck was still cold. When I came out the fan was on as usual and I pulled away. The engine was now warm so I reved it to about 3000rpm to turn the fan off. No dice, the fan wouldnt turn off even after a 15 minute drive. It was 15 degrees outside and I was going about 55mph. So Why is my fan engaged all the time? Is the thermostat failed? I placed a 180 degree t-stat in about 2 weeks ago and all was great until today. The coolant is full also. Any ideas? I already reset the PCM thinking that might help, it didnt. So anyone out there who is a mechanic can you please help me diagnose this? Thank YOu very very very much for taking the time to read this I need your help asap b/c I have to drive back to college on Wed.

Message: If it doesn't kick off right away probalbly needs a new fan clutch. Climb under the hood and give the fan a spin (with out the engine running) and see if it is somewhat free if should have a little resistance but if there is alot the fan clutch siezed up. Hopefuly you still have warranty. If not I think it is a 50 dollar part.

Message: Well I went and spun the fan and it did have some resistance, but it didnt seem to bad. That doesn't mean the fan clutch is seized but... Are there any other possibilities in case thats not it? I appreciate your quick response Im not very mechanically inclined.

Message: If it continues to roar all the time then I would replace the fan clutch.

Message: on the lines of error codes.. my 98 CC 4x4 with a 5.2 seems to have an issue with idiot lights. every now and again the check engine, low wash, cruise, and low fuel lights come on. sometimes bright and solid, others faint and flickers.. I had lost my license so the truck wasnt driven for 4 or 5 days, when I went to move it the whole gauge cluster didnt work. it lit up, but thats it. since then, everything works in the cluster and the rest of the truck works fine except for those 4 idiot lights.. the battery is a 1 year old 750 amp, and all connections to it and the underhood fuse box are tight. any help or ideas?
Thanks..

| Fuel Guage Calibration IP: Logged
Message: I just recently purchased a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, with a 4.7 litre V8 engine. The fuel guage consistently shows empty after I have only consumed approx. 30 litres of fuel. The tank holds approx. 90 litres of fuel. The dealer says I need to replace the entire guage console, a cost of approx $600 without labour! Since the guage is consistently moving to empty after I have used a third of the tank, I believe the fuel guage may not be calibrated properly. I will be definitely getting another opinion, but could my theory be correct? And if it is possible, what should I say to the service folks? I appreciate any response you may provide. Thanks.
