Subject: Coolant?? 5.2 IP: Logged
Message: I dont know if i have a problem or not. But all my friends tell me that dodge is known for using coolant. And in my opinion that is nothing but bad. When i take my Themostat off and look in the radiator i see coolant, so that is good. But When i look at the overflow tank the dip stick says none. I dont know what is going on and I hope someone can help. My truck is a 5.2 V8.

Just had the coolant flushed and filled by the dealer...nothing on the coolant stick, even when warm. Anyone else?

Message: Look down at the at thermostat gasket. The original gasket WILL leak but does not leave any visable puddles. Look closely down at the thermostat housing, you WILL see the evaporated coolant just below on the block, it traps it and burns it off so there are no visable leaks under the truck.

Message: Thanks jo mama...recommended fix to this problem then would be to replace the radiator cap?
Am I on the right track? I keep seeing "thermostat" but when I think thermostat I'm thinking about the device between the engine block and upper radiator hose...are we talking about the thermostat or the radiator cap? Thanks guys!

Message: not the radiator cap. that has nothing to do with the thermostat, the thermostat is located on the front of the intake manifold behind the alternator. just follow the big black hose from the top of the radiator, it will lead you directly to the thermostat housing.

Message: Sorry for saying thermestat... i meant radiator cap. Im retarted. All my buddies say i have nothing to worry about. When i open the cap there is coolant, so the engine has a full level. I am having the system flushed next week. If you have any other view i would really appreciate it.
