Subject: 360 swap on 4x4 IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if a 360 would bolt in if i got the mounts from engineswaps.com. i have a 92 ext cab dakota 4x4 it has a 3.9 in it now. i also want to know what i could get the tranny off of to work with my 4 wheel drive i would like a manual if possible. I plan on hauling a stock car with it when done so it has to be a tough tranny. any help would be appreciated.
Tanks, Jeff

Message: I just done this swap today on my 93 4X4 Your 3.9 mounts work without any mods on a 360. Here's a list of things you need: Durango or R/T oil pan and pick up tube, Fuel rail for 92 318 dakota w/ regulator and holddown clamp and screw, 360 PCM, and either early exhaust manifolds or headers. The exhaust will line up fine with newer manifolds but won't seal because the flange is smaller on the and bigger on the old ones. You will need to either get a Dak V-8 throttle body or modify the one that comes on you engine so 1 piece of the throttle body will hook up. You will need add 2 wires to the engine harness to the PCM for your #7 (pin 17) and #8 (pin 18) injector wires. The other wires to your injectors (green w/ red stripe) tie into a common conection in the harness with the other injector wires along side of the intake manifold, 1 connection per bank. Trim your rad hoses and fan shroud to fit (about 4 inches). You will prolly need to lengthen your heater hoses also. The bellhousing bolts up the same. 360s are external balanced so a wieghted flywheel is needed. My truck is an automatic and I used a weighted flexplate for a 99 durango, I had to modify one converter bolt hole for it to work properly. You can also by a 360 mag wieght kit from Mopar Performance and follow the included instructions to weld wieght to your torque converter. If its a stick you need a 360 mag flywheel. All of the other accessories bolt up perfectlywith the exception of bending the trans cooler lines away from the oil pan. Hope this helps. Have fun with your new tire burner!
