Message: I've a 99 5.2 cc 4x4 70,000, And 100% AMSOIL SYNTHETICS, engine, tran, rearends, tranfer case, and all grease points, I've been useing these for 30 yrs in every thing I've had/have right down to the the lawn mower, their are many well advertised benefits about synthetics, fuel milage, extended engine life, etc. First of all I'm speaking on Amsoil, I have researched synthetics extensively, independent studies have shown that AMSOIL on wear test was 300% better than the number 2 synthetic Mobil 1 (I'M NOT A DEALER GUYS) But their are other benifits that are much more important I feel, synthetics conduct heat better than regular oil, and their for cooler engine, the differance in temps Between the heads and short block are less of a spread because this oil conducts heat better, I should have said cooler heads, and we all know heat distroys! ESPECIALLY TRANIES !! In the summer 2001 AMSOIL came out with fluid formulated for DAKOTA/RAM tranies, when my truck had about 25000 miles on it lock/up on the tourqe converter started bumping in and out on the level and even throttle, even downhill, this bothered the heck out of me, well i took it to 2 dealers and they said they could not find anything wrong, this continued along with (like many cars/trucks) having cruise on out in the hilly country side and constant shifting down & up, down & up, I put up with this for a while then about 38000 I went to a respected trany shop (out of warenty) and he said the same thing, could'nt find anything wrong! AMSOIL told me (factory rep) that had formulated fluid for truck, I completely changed all of the tranny fluid to AMSOIL, I was amased of the change in preformance, no more lock/up bumping in & out, and cruise on uphillgrade if it shifts down it stays their until the grade changes, also it has better viscosity and it shifts much stronger and I can feel the differance in transfer of power to the rear wheels, I was going to say that it feels like more HP, well it is, more gets to the rear wheels!! Also us cold wheather people (I'm in MN) synthetic does not get thicker with lower temps, and I don't know how many of us realize running cold regular oils (30 degres or less) down the road with out a good warming first, how hard this is on Tran/engine, AMSOIL stays much more fluid.. This should explain AMSOIL well, you can't Break a motor in with this oil, it would probaly take 50,000 miles or more! I have sugestions for any one that wants to swicth, If you want a cooler, stronger, longer living DAKOTA! DAKORED 70,000 & going Stronger, I hope this fits on a Page, thier are just so many PLUSES

Message: 30 year old vehicle ran without any problems on Castrol 10w40 (my old '69 Javelin). At the 185K rebuild mark (heads took a dump - valve broke) the oil pan and oil galley's were very clean, the bearings were worn as expected on a 185K mile vehicle (not bad though), and this was WITHOUT Amsoil.
As long as you change your oil on a regular basis, don't bother with the Hyped up Oils (Amsoil especially).
Amsoil is known for over-advertising their oils/products (My dad was a dealer for them about 10 years ago and stopped due to outrages claims) and they claim to be the best. So far, regular maintenance will always win.
Dakored: Nothing against you personally, but Amsoil isn't the best...none of them are. Synthetic oils work very well but if you change the oil on a regular basis (3500 miles), Mobil-1 or even quality "Dino" oil will work just fine.

Message: I will try to make this little story brief. I owned a garage (I built racing heads and engines for NHRA S/G and down to bracket racing).
There was almost everyday someone stopping by and asking me if I wanted to buy their car or engine etc... This old lady stopped by and asked if I wanted to buy her deceased husbands car ('74 Caprice I think LOL) The engine ran great, 350 with 400 TH, I thought I could use the engine (block and tranny) for resale or rebuild.
The SB showed 100,000 plus miles. I jerked the engine and began tearing it apart, I had difficulty removing the valve covers..when I finally got one off I was shocked! The only thing visable were the rockers, just enough space for them to go up and down, it was solid caked up mass. Some months later when I had time to devote to that SB I continued with the tear down. the old pan was bout 1" deep in something hard and orange..after disassembly I started checking the clearances, again I was shocked, everything was in tolerances when new....
The oil used was EXXON......
I found out what the hard and orange substance was......CLAY, EXXON uses clay as a filter in their refining process.

Message: Amsoil 300% better? That's a hot one!
I am a retired Harley Davidson mechanic..yes 30 years...Synthetics were too slick for harley engines, they tended to make the roller bearings slide instead of roll...but I do use Mobil One in my Dak, primarily because it flows readily even in the cold...don't believe me? Take a can of dino oil, and a can of Mobil..wait till its about 20 degrees outside and start pouring...the difference is obvious.
As far as Amsoil? They always made these crazy claims, of course the testing was all controlled by them...use whatever you like, just change it every 3,000 miles.

Message: Well guys I was Just trying to offer some good info, we would still be hauling vehicles to the junk yard at a 100,000 miles or less if it wasn't for technology,I'm was not looking for an arguement, the thing I was tring to do is If some one was having auto trany trouble, like I had been having that maybe this info might help. Bernd,Don't take this personal, WHY does the word amsoil seen to cause to raise your dander, In the first place when's the last time you seen an ad for Amsoil on TV or heard it on radio, you havn't? you have to find info on this product. They were the first to produce synthetics, for aircraft, becuase of extreme cold. Do you suppose all of the other major Petroleum companies started producing synthetics because its inferior To petroleum products, Not!! I bought new in 1991 a geo metro, after break in amsoil was in and its on its 2nd teenager and very good running shape it's 294,321 I just went and looked, amazing they get a car, they forget were home is. ha ha. I had to replace lots of things , but not tran or engine. 86 caravan 225,000. Speaking of Dads, mine been a dealer for Amsoil for years, he has as client's, 2 Heavy construction companies, school bus outfit, a computer repair service fleet, And many other people & groups, some of them for many yrs, they would never return to petroleum based products!! Absolutly all petroleum products have inpurities in them no mater how well their refined, LP, Gas, Desiel, and oil has the highest of them all is oil, I can tell bernd that your a intelligent man and your respected here, but we could not be having this chat if it wasn't for people thinking outside of there box, I wish you could have a more inpartial & open view, Almost all oils have synthetics in them and have for years, take a bottle of your castrol to a university Lab, ask them analize it and tell you what man-made-chemicals-synthetics, and with petroleum, minerals, natural metals, are in it.. The reason you have to change every 3000 because it breaks down, their are poeple that will always do the same things the same way, but not all poeple are the same, we'd still be listening to a radio & run outside to the out house for relief. If your driving long enough some day all Lubricating oils we be synthetics, Bernd I have respect for you, let yourstubbornself take a little better look, KEEP DAKOTRUCKING

Message: Stubborn, I did run Amsoil 20w50 a few times in my old BB Chevy Camaro (1976 "ProStreet" conversion)...it started to (literally) loose oil pressure at random. All I did was switch to Redline 20w50 and no more problems (wasn't the oil pump, sender, or anything in the oiling system...just the oil). I contacted Amsoil on that problem and they just brushed it off as a problem with the engine....she ran 12.2's @ 120mph all day long...engine my a$$.
Hey, my mom has a '86 caravan with about the same mileage...still runs strong on Castrol 10w40.
I go by common sense, many years of experience, and factual findings on the track and street. Change your oil at regular intervals, use a quality oil (Dino or Synthetic), and it will help keep your engine clean and running strong...don't forget the regular maintenance on the engine as well.
BTW: I know what you mean with the little old lady and the oil gook under the valve cover...I had a similar experience back in the late 80's with a customer who brought their car into the station for an oil change...I had to chip the oil crud from the oil pan drain hole to actually drain properly. That's from just adding oil and not changing it on a regular basis. Nasty stuff...yech.

I live in Atlanta for now and have for some years but I am looking at moving to Kentucky. Just gotta get out of this city now, its out of control.
I was a bike mechanic for the City of Miami, Florida Police Dept for most of my years and rode to Daytona every year and went to Sturgis before we called it that..it was originally called the Black Hills Classic..that is a long ride from Miami, but I did that seven straight years. I have not taken any long rides in some years due to crackly bones and the like, but once I get moved out to a country place, I may well hit the road a bit more before the Great One puts my kick stand down for the last time.

Message: I just wanted everyone to know that everyone is
entitled to their own opinion. ... Now let me give you
mine.
I have saved a lot of money since switching all of my
commercial lawncare equipment over to AMSOIL, and it
has solved a lot of problems for me that NO Petroleum
oil could do (I own SCAG, TORO, Echo and Husqvarna
equipment).
I am also involved with a lot of RACERS and I am the
President of MAD DUCK MOTORSPORTS.
I also serve as a Lubrication Consultant to other race
teams and I have seen what AMSOIL WILL do!
AMSOIL does flow more freely than other oils (including
other Synthetics) and you may see a slight drop in oil
pressure, but if you know anything about the chemistry
of PAO's and Ester based Synthetics then you will know
that it is "pushing" easier and the flow rate has
increased, I run a 1990 GMC pickup on the 0w-30
AMSOIL and I have about 18-20 lbs. of oil pressure at
idle (550), 40 at 1,100 and 40 at the double nickel
(5,500 R.P.M).
As someone who knows, I am more concerned with
boundry lubrication than I am with pressure alone so
if any of you want to say that AMSOIL is nothing but a
bunch of hype .... NO PROBLEM !
I will keep buying their Products !
Duane J. Roark

and President of :
MAD DUCK MOTORSPORTS
P.S. Did you know that AMSOIL has been Rated
#1 by ( I will name a few) Fast Fours and
Rotaries, Popular Hot Rodding and Coast to Coast
magazine?
High Performance engine builders are
endorsing AMSOIL more and more every day and
it comes as no surprise to me.
Now if I can just save up enough money to
buy that 4.7 litre / 5-speed Dakota !

Message: Well I use Mobile 1 and have used it for years. I think that primary reason for their use by OEM's is as follows:1) Cost!!!2)Large Supplier able to supply their entire need.3)Reputation 4)Quality and consistency of product!5)Mobile is largest manufacture of PAO stock.I am guesing that GM is getting it for $1.40-$2.00 a quart due to large volume that they buy.Delphi Chasis tested Redline Oil, MTL and Gear Lube. The averaged 30 degree cooler temp.'s then when running Mobile 1 products. They used a Bereta an olds and a corvette. I like synthetics but I have to agree with bernd and others Amsoil makes alot of crazy claims and nothing replaces regular maintence! I like how they totaly ignore polyo ester synthetics higher heat capacity and reduced wear. You never see them test their product against a street rated API aproved redline product!! P.S. I read an article the other day about a guy in GA. that got 1 million miles on his 1982 Toyota Starlet and it has the original engine in it and has never been rebuilt. When asked his secret he replyed" I changed my oil every 3000 miles!" I am sure that it helped that the 3KC and 4kc engines that Toyota used in those starlets were pretty much bullet proof. They used solid lifter, solid pushrods, and easy to use valve lash adjusters. With that sad nothing beats maintence!!!!!

YES, I am an AMSOIL Dealer and user and YES, at one
time I used Castrol GTX (which is now owned by
Quaker State) and after years of Military Aviation
training I was sold on the use of Synthetics.
After using Mobil 1 for years sucessfully and believing
that it was the absolute best, I then read an article in
the January 1993 issue of Popular Hot Rodding which
talked more about AMSOIL than any other oil.
After learning about the AMSOIL company and after
conducting my own extended oil drains with oil analysis
(which is better than frequent oil changes) I'm sold !
I was such a big skeptic of AMSOIL (especially their
100:1 2-cycle oil) that I actually tried to prove that
the companys claims were a hoax but never could seize
up any of my equipment, it just lasted longer.
I was also skeptical of the 25,000 mile or one-year oil
change interval and through countless oil analysis
reports I found that ..... AMSOIL WAS TELLING THE
TRUTH!
Note:
AMSOIL will never be sold at Wal-Mart (and neither will
Rolex watches)
Note:
AMSOIL has been tested against RED-LINE and proven
to outperform them (were have you been?)
Note:
AMSOIL was solicited for bid as the factory fill oil for the
Corvette and as a supplier to a major automotive and
hardware chain and AMSOIL refused to undercut their
dealers by selling direct and declined.
To sum it up:
I do not push AMSOIL on anyone, I have plenty of
business and I do not need to argue to sell the
product.
Nuff Said !

I have never seen a comparison of Redlines API aproved oils and Amsoil. I have not seen a 4 ball wear test of redline on Amsoil's site. I have not seen any dyno reports on Amsoil's product's. I am not saying that they do not make a good product!!! I just think that they over state their competitive advantage and selectively ignore other products that "might" be better or equal to their own. Come on "Universal Transmission Fluid" and gear lube that if good for the "life" of the car or truck. That a bit hard to belive!!!!

Message: API graded SH "Dino" oil is rated for 7500 miles between changes. Changing at 3000 is designed by the people selling you oil.
Mobil 1 will last 10k between changes.
Amsoil will last 25k between changes.
I changed all my fluids to Amsoil just for the time interval between changes, no other reason. My brother runs Mobil 1, changes it every 10k, and has 170,000 miles on his car, with no problems. The guy who started me on Amsoil has 400,000 miles on his Ford pickup.I have absolute confidence in the Amsoil going for 25k between changes, and I have absolute confidence in the Mobil 1 going 10k between changes. And I have absolute confidence in Dino oil going for 6000 between changes.
Although I use Amsoil for the extended drain time, I still believe that if you pick a good brand, and change it when recommended you will never have a problem.
But, we're talking OIL here. It just ain't gonna make that big a difference in your life. When was the last time you heard of an engine puking because of the crappy oil? The cars made in the 60's got 200k on them with that swill they called motor oil back then, and we have tremendously better oil today.
You could put the most advanced oil manufactured in your car, and you really think that ancient gas guzzlin' engine designed in the 50's is going to notice?
Buy what you like, because it ALL works.
You're really only buying peace of mind.
