Will definately be loud. have you thought about the Turbo mufflers? More of a performance rumble there instead of a big 4x4 crackle of a glass pack.

It would pop more than rumble, I've never used one, but my neighbors apprentice had a Ford Ranger that had cut off the muffler and replaced it with a glass pack. It was loud and crackled like straight pipes but had that backfiring sound after WOT. Go with some magnaflow mufflers for a nice deep rumble without the farm truck popping sounds.

I got a glasspack on my 3.9 and it sounds nice and deff not like rice....
Its a great sound when down shifting....

I have a 96 Dakota w/ a 318. I have a glass pack with a y pipe, because it is not possibe to have dual exhaust on mine. But boy is it loud and deep especially when you step into it.

IMHO glasspacks sound like crap, worse than
the fart/rice cars. If you want your dakota to
sound like an early 80's beat-up Monte Carlo
then go with a glasspack. Otherwise try any
kind of turbo. To me, glasspack = redneck.

I had a 80 Monte Carlo 383 stroker, 700R4 and 3.73 posi that car kicked ass. BTW the glass packs suck, nothin like a cop attractor.

'69 Charger, hopped up 318 with headers, duals, and twin turbo mufflers. It was like being in my own NASCAR in-car cam. Obviously not as loud, but remembering it still gives me chill bumps. Awesome performance sound. A big glasspack will make a deep mellow rumble, but that basso profundo does seem to resonate all the way to the donut shop.

I've got a glass pack on my 318 70 dodge d100 truck and it sounds really deep and throaty. not nasty and popping like most glass packs I've heard. Maybe that's due to the fact that there's no tailpipe on it. I'm going to get headers and put dual turbo's on though.

sic, I thought i was the only person who put a glasspak on their v6...... yeah it does sound good downshifting (after its warmed up) i love that sound!!!!! even better, sometimes when i downshift the tires chirp :-P
I can't wait until i get my state tax back, so i can get my shiftkit installed...... time for 2nd gear chirpin'

magnaflow, how you set it up is your biz. I have an 04 4.7, I am using the stock pipes with a magnaflow, the larger one, single out 2.5 pipes, those are stock. The guy at the shop said 2.5 is plenty big for the 4.7. Maybe try a 3" single out for the 318, not really sure about that particular motor although I did have one in a 79 Van when I was younger.

Glass-packs are redneck and 100% country, but at the same time, I like a glass-pack over straight-pipes ANY day. Personally, I'm going with the professional low 'woof' of a Flowmaster or similar brand. You put the same truck side-by-side, one with a pack and one with a real deep-sounding muffler, and most people will think the deep-sounding one has more power, even if the trucks are identical. I also like the deeper sound because it's like saying 'Yeah, you hear that? It's got power just waiting to be unleashed!' and makes people wonder what you've got under the hood. Plus I won't drive my neighbors insane if I come in late, unless I floor it.

Yes glass packs sound good. I put a Thrush round Cherry bomb glass pack 28' long and 2.5" i/o on my 04 4.7. Replaced the original ss muffler perfectly. I bought my truck in Va and it does not have a 3rd cat. It sounds great under acceleration and is quiet at 65 'in 5th gear. Nobody asks me if it's a six anymore. I used the original band clamps from the stock muffler so that I can remove it later should I have to. When the glass pack muffler burns out, I will replace it with a new one for <$25.
