Subject: Dual Exhaust?? IP: Logged
Message: Ever since I put in my 3" Gibson, I noticed a good amount of low end power loss, and I haven't quite been able to recover it with my other mods. Now, what I was thinking, should I be simple and put the stock size pipe back in and just put on a good muffler, or I was thinking of going duals, not true, just split it at the muffler and go 2 2" pipes exit behind the wheels, since I wheel alot, I don't want it out at the bumper. Opinions appreciated!!

Message: true dual 2 1/2 inch pipes is the way to go, dont go smaller than 2 1/4 inch, they may give you nice low end but they kill top end and some midrange. they also may keep to much heat in the engine.

Message: Just order a mbrp exhaust from jonas. It is a nice dual exhaust, and the tailpipes are 2 1/4". There is no low end loss from it, you actually gain a bit. It also sounds the best out of all the exhausts.

Message: Go with 2-1/4 inch pipe and y out in the back with 3 inch tips (don't use short tips either, they look stupied). If you don't like the sound you can always add a glass pack right before you y out. The 4.7's with a glass pack sound the best with this set up. The sound is cleaner and smoother than a 5.2 or a 5.9. If you have V6, leave the exhaust alone, or buy a V8.

Message: I have a 00 with a 4.7, and that's the set up I have on mine. I haven't noticed any power loss, and it increased my throttle responce. You should be able to get the whole set up with a glass pack for around $140.00. That's from the cad back, your looking at a lot more to redo the whole exhaust.

Message: Also, the length of your truck will affect the sound. I have an extended cab, so the sound is lower than a single cab. The sound will be a little lower towned on your dakota than mine because you have a quad cab. But it will still sound really good. You may not want a glass pack though. It just depends on how loud you want your truck.
