Subject: Gummed up throttle body cause stalling?? IP: Logged
Message: Engine stalls when start in morning. Does not always idle well and sometimes stalls when first started. This sounds like the commom problem many people have with the 4.7L. Dealer claims that the throttle body is gummed up and needs to be cleaned and this is not a warranty item and will cost $105. Anyone else try this fix and solve the problem permanently?

Message: The TB is easy to clean...and will only cost you the $4.00 for the carb cleaner. You will need to remove it for a proper cleaning and you'll also have to remove the IAC solenoid to clean out the port (which is known for causing poor idle).

Message: I just ported and polished my throttle body.4.7.made a noticable diffrence.anyway while I had it apart I cleaned the iac it was really gumbed up.thats only after 32,000 miles.very easy to do if you have not done it before.3 bolts and 30 min if you have never done it before.made the idle a lot smoother.I would think it will help your problem.

Message: Yeah, same thing happened to me, the dealer replaced the part (IAC sensor). Had I known that was the only problem I would not have spent the $200+ dollars to have them replace it, but rather clean it for free. By the way, cleaning the IAC takes all of 5 minutes. Now I know
