Message: Well, kenne-bell makes a supercharger that replaces the whole crappy intake manifold.
Of course there's also a guy named Duner that's been shoving 12 psi of boost thru his crappy plastic intake for about 1 year now. So I'm not too worried about how crappy it is.

Message: Why do you think its crappy? I think aluminum, that corrodes, that you have to use gaskets with, and can warp crappy.

Message: Ok, my turn to nit-pick.
Dr. Dakota- Aluminum intakes had their time. I agree with you that Composite style intakes are the way to go..on stock or mildly modified engines. Lower weight, lower intake temps, both good. But, Composites have a tendency to develope cracks after prolonged temperature extremes. The don't hold up well to prolonged high manifold pressures. They are especially harder to port / modify, due to the lack of extra material. And by the way, 4.7L intakes DO use gaskets, they are just flexible O-ring style gaskets. Now when are they going to come out with composite exhaust manifolds??? hmmm. something to ponder over a cup of SHUT THE F*CK UP. just kidding about the last part. have a nice night!!
Keep it rubber side down!

Message: FastR/T- You are correct sir...they do have o-rings, I don't classify o-rings as gaskets though, gaskets have to be replaced and sealed, o-rings don't. I'm not worried about hi manifold pressure, my Dak isn't turbo or supercharged and the hi-temps is a myth...the plastic manifolds do not have a water jacket and they stay alot cooler...thats why the fuel injected engines use them. You are totally correct with the porting etc, thats why you just go buy the HO one from buymopar.com for $120..as I recall, years ago when i used to make hot-rods, porting of an aluminum manifold was a lot more expensive than $120.
Funny thing you said about the plastic exhaust...detroit is coming out with plastic exhaust pipes. They are really wide and flat with F-117 style stealth openings at the end, they reduce the noise considerably and mufflers are going to be a thing of the past...check out the latest issue of Popular Mechanics!
Happy Holidays!

Message: What are some of the best intake manifolds for a 1992 Dodge Dakota with the 5.2L V8? I've heard the M1 is great. Are they're any others? I need something with BIG hp/torque.

Message: Yes, there is - but I don't know if by "this 318-5.2" you mean an LA 318 or the magnum 5.2. If the latter, you just have less choices.

Message: the m1 is a great top end manifold. it will really wake up a manual transmission truck. but it's not a big torque maker, unless you're looking at towing a boat at 4000 rpm+
you'll notice it's a little less responsive around town. but good for track duty, especially if you have a cam for it already.
