Subject: exactly how do lower gears effect rpms? IP: Logged
Message: Compared to 3.55's I realize that 3.92's get you up in the rpms quicker, but how exactly is this accomplished? Is it more like starting off higher on the tach or more just a means of revving through the tach quicker?

Message: It's just like dropping down a gear on a ten speed bike. To get the same acceleration it takes less work. The down-side like the bike is that your lowered the top speed you could do, depending on how much you drop the gear.
A mechanical description would be that the deeper gear multiply the torque more to the the tires by letting the motor turn more times for every turn of the tires. 4.1 turns of the motor(auto in 3rd) gear vs. one turn of the tires.
Hope this helped, if it didn't I think I could explain it a different way.
