I put my '97 v8 dodge dakota in the shop today to get the water pump replaced, and they are charging me 380 dollars. Is that way too much?? you dont have to take the radiator out to get to the pump do you?? I dont have the chiltons for my dakota, so im not sure what all is involved...if anyone has one, could they check and see what the hours are for labor cost on the water pump for me?? thanks
Also, coolant leaks seem to be a common problem with dodge dakotas. Is there any thing i can do to prevent this?

im a DC tech and our labor is 2.5 customer pay. all you have to take off is the fan and then pull the transfer tube out of the water pump and walla, you have it in your hands. the pump at my dealer is around 120.00 bucks. how much is the shop labor where it is at? ours is 78.50 per hour.

it is costing to replace the water pump,upper radiator replace, by pass hose and also the thermo stat for $392.75 including labor is this a good price? It is for a 95 Dodge Dakota.

Sounds fair if, you can't do the work yourself and they guarantee their work and do the job right. Upper radiator hose from the dealer(only place you can get it) was $70.00. New waterpump from A/Z is about $60.00. Try to get them to throw in the lower radiator hose too.
