Way up here in Alaska we have a lot of dark. The headlights seem to have problems staying bright. As long as I wipe them every 5 miles of so it is ok, but after that they struggle. This isn't bad in town where we have streetlights, but in the boonies you can tell that they aren't putting out a lot of light. I talked to repair shops/custom shops/ and mechanics who all like the Dakota, but also hate the headlights. They have installed brighter bulbs but the housing around the bulbs melted and lets moisture in, which again leads to screwed lighting. Has anyone out there found something that works?

I added Xenon high wattage bulbs almost 5 months ago with any melting or moisture problems, the visibility increase at night is very noticeable. Add a set of Hella 500 or 550's to your front bumper and you will be happy regardless of how dirty the headlights are! I have 5-550's on my rollbar and don't need my headlights on really they are so bright, but need the them for fill in front my Dak.

I got a 19.00 set of GE headlight bulbs at walmart the package said super blue or something....they are about 25% brighter and no melting....

Are there any particular Xenon bulbs to get?
The Hella 500 or 550's, are those for the foglights or something else added on?
And off the subject I read in a post in the past that most mods that are done to the Dak's are compensated by the computer after about 200 miles or so to get performance back to stock. Is this true or someone blowing steam?
South is too far to move...besides I am not sure that I would be able to handle year round sunlight.
