Subject: 99 Dakota Metal Intake Gasket IP: Logged
Message: I have a oil leak in the belly pan on the intake and the gasket needs replaced. The dealer told me they changed from paper to a metal gasket. The mechanics I talked to in the shop said the metal is no better than the paper. The metal wont get sucked in as much but the metal wont seal cause its to thin and they have already had a few "re-do's" already with the new metal gasket. Is there anybody out there that makes a leak free aftermarket gasket?........Thx

Message: CW,
Thanks for the reply. I will keep my fingers crossed, it sounds like your a mechanic at the shop. I was told they [metal gaskets] have been out 3-4 months.

Message: I have replaced several paper gaskets with metal gaskets with no come-backs, this goes for everyone else at our dealership. Make sure they coat the metal gasket with some spraybomb MOPAR gasket sealer and clean the surfaces good (don't use a 3M roloc disc on the aluminum because it will eat away the aluminum and it wont seal properly). Buy doing this you should have no problems.
