Anybody have any hints on how to drain the block on a 4.7 V8 in a 4X4?

Where are the drain plugs?

Either I'm stupid or the FSM isn't clear cause when I tried to drain the block I got no water(I know it's in there).

TIA,
jc

The block drain is on the passenger side at the rear of the block. Its a 9/16 hex.

Just did this myself when I replaced my t-stat to a 180. It's on the DRIVERS SIDE there's a big plastic screw I guess, hard to explain, it's about an inch in diameter, and it's on the SIDE of the radiator. If I remember I can take a pic, but there is also a little nipple, where you can stick a 1/4 - 3/8" (not sure) rubber hose and have a little more control where it drains. If your doing the T-stat, when you pull out the t-stat, there will still be some coolant that comes out that didn't in the draining procedure.
If you really want me to take a pic, you'll have to e-mail me at

I know I'll forget to check back here.
but it is on the drivers side and it's a little difficult to find, if you don't know where to look.

Now this is on a 2002 4.7L 4x4. again, if you want pics shoot me an e-mail.
good luck
