Subject: running lean with new cams IP: Logged
Message: those gains with the new krc cam for the 4.7 sound really impressive, I was discussing them with a buddy of mine and he was saying when you install new cams with greater lift and duration than stock you will most likely run lean...do you all think installing these cams and keeping everything else stock will cause me to run lean?

Message: That is the beauty of the adaptable speed density system. It will change within 15%. The IAT sensor can give a 5% fuel decrease or increase by itself. When you add huge heads, TB, exhaust, then the fuel curve needs to be recurved. The old OBD1 systems were more limited and would throw a code for adaptive limits exceeded. The newer OBDII systems do not. Just do not choose a cam that is designed for heads and cams combos , and then try running it in a stock configuration. Hope this helps!

Message: He said that the vehicle will compensate for the newer cams by itself, to a point, which is within the range for their cams.

You know, these are not the droids we are looking for...
(Move along....)
Yes, move along, move along....
I am sorry if I get rambling sometimes, I am easily led around and can get caught up in the moment and can ramble you to death. The 206 cams will not have a problem adjusting but the 218's will need more fuel. Take care!

Message: thanks for the info...that's what I suspected but just wanted to make sure. Have you guys over at KRC tried the ho manifold (I know your working on your own and I'm sure it will be impressive as well)to take care of the power drop in the 4-5,000 rpm range I suspect it would take care of that nicely.

Message: Hey KRC Tech, maybe a bit off topic, but does
the speed density system on OBDII utilize a
MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor?
I'm asking 'cause I've got an '88lx 5.0 mustang
beater that's speed density. (Ford switched to
a mass air system in '90) I know some
mustang guys that tried using ford's "B" and
"E" cams with the speed density system and it
didn't work well 'cause the cams killed
vacuum at idle and manifold air pressure
causing the speed density system to idle like
crap, dumping in way to much fuel.
I'm just curious if Mopars set up is at all
similar.
Thanks,
Lemmers

Message: Yes, the old motors were also speed density, too.
