Subject: Whats special about the R/T???? IP: Logged
Message: What is the difference between an R/T and a regular fully loaded SLT 5.9L. We test drove an 02 R/T Durango and it felt and sounded a little different. Was this my imagination? The guy I bought my 99 from told me the only difference is in the trim package outside and in. He's a pretty reputable Dodge guy. What's the deal with the R/T?

Message: Are you talking about the Durango or the Dakota? The only way to get the 5.9 in a regular or club cab Dakota is with the R/T so there is no comparing it to a 5.9 SLT Dakota. The 5.9 in the Quad Cab Dakota has a little less hp and torque then in the RC and CC R/T's but the R/T adds more then just the 5.9 motor. On the Durango the R/T adds a little more hp and torque to the 5.9, but also add a few other things as well, the most obvious being the 17" wheels. Most of the other R/T upgrades on the Durango could be individually added to the SLT while checking the options lists but the R/T has them standard with the package.

Message: The R/T package goes far beyond exterior trim. It includes a much tighter rally sport suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, positive traction rear end with 3.92 gears, as well as $1500 worth of wheels and 55 series tires. Its more or less a sports car foundation.
