Subject: v6 -to- v8 swap on 2wd

Message:
I have a 1992 2wd 'kota currently with the 3.9 magnum backed by the a500(auto). I am currently 3/4 of the way through a high performance 360 build up and, not having found my dream mopar as of yet, was actualyl planning on dropping the 360 in the dakota. Here are a few questions (basic and not so basic):

1.) The 92 dakota was offered with a v8. Does this mean that the mounts for the 360 will bang right in with the same stock 3.9 mounts? If not, has anyone run into this problem and how have you rectified it.

2) Again, seeing at the v8 was an option in the 92, would a 360 wiring harness also just "match up" to the stock 3.9 harness? If not, what sort of situation am I looking at in regard to wire swapping and losing some things. I'm not really into everything working, as long as the engine pumps (i.e. - lights staying on when the vehicle is off, airbags deploying for no apparent reasons, ABS thinking im brakings on 9 inches of ice)

3) I built the 360 from an older style block from a dodge van. Its got the numbers stamped on it but I'm still looking around to figure out what they mean. I'll post them here and see if anyone has any ideas, as im sure you guys will. I found out that one of the numbers has something to do with the metal content of the block itself, but just to play it safe. The block numbers (and their locations) are as follows:

4179930 - 360 : if you are viewing the engine from the front (belts and accessories), this number is printed on the right side below the deck).

17 7 87 : viewing the engine from the front, this number is printed on the left side several inches away from the oil filter bolt.

There are also five 6's on the engine block, two on one side, two on the other side (both in the same location on both sides) and one under the timing cover. I'm not sure what the 6's mean, could be the mark of the beast of just a production stamp. Either way, figured someone would know.

My luck, I've either got some very rare "super-block" or I've got one that's bound to crap out. I bought this block for 50 bucks almost 6 years ago when I was 17. Back in those days, as many of you may know, all you want to do is pull your first engine. My first engine pull, however, was pulling a smallblock out of the dodge van's doghouse. For those of you that know what I'm talking about, please sympathize ;) Anyway, I wasn't really concerned with the stamps on it at the time and have since built it pretty regularly when I get a free chance. Sorry about the LOOOONG post. Hopefully I'll get a few nice replies that'll help. Thanks Again.

The 6's are core identification
There will be a little clock like thing with a pointer on it, that tells the time it was casted.
There will be an arrow pointing to a "D" or "N" this indicates casted in the day or night. If it has mounting ears, you will have to adapt it to the six cylinder mounts. Some of the older blocks had the three holes on the side of the block also. If you got that one your lucky.

The block has the ears with the bolt hole on each ear, two in equal locations on each side. Let me guess, I'm going to have to fudge the mount ;) Anyway, what sort of modifications am I going to have to throw in? Any ideas?

I may have a set of mount adaptors for 5.9L engine to 3.9L frame. If not ,I got the prints to make them. I can E-Mail the prints to you. Dan

dan, I would GREATLY appreciate that. While I'm no auto mechanic, I'm fairly good at fabrication and welding. The plans shouldn't be too hard to follow. Thanks for your support.
