Subject: Stock headers...chrome?
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm new here, and just bought a mint condition 2000 Flame Red CC Dodge Dakota 5.9 R/T. I was looking through the engine compartment and dreaming of all the mods I'm going to do to the truck. I noticed that the truck already has chrome headers on it. Were the stock headers on the 5.9L engine chrome plated? Or are these aftermarket chrome headers?

TIA,

DMan

If they're chrome, then they're aftermarket headers. The factory exhaust manifolds were pretty scuzzy looking.

Hhmmmmm...OK, that's not such a bad thing. However, how would I go about finding what brand of headers these are? Should I take a pic of the headers and post it here?

Thanks,

DMan

OK, I found out that these are Gibson headers #301 and they are indeed the chrome version and not stainless steel.

Now, one last question. Some of the chrome is coming off of the headers. Is it possible to get these looking new again without having to remove them? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

DMan

If the chrome is coming off/ peeling you will probably have to remove them and get them plated again. Call Gibson and see if they have any warranty on the header finish. They may fix/ replace them for you. The factory manifolds are cast iron and rusty looking.
